Def passed out last night. Woke in the middle of the night to rain. I got up in the dark to go potty and it was all misted over, could barely see a few feet ahead of me. All of our tents were soaked by morn. I did notice it got hot and humid through the night thus explaining the showers. J made us bacon and eggs for breakfast. So delicious. He has served us SO well. Overly generous and making sure we are taken care of. We packed up and headed back to the intersection. We said our goodbyes and he dropped us off on the road. Always so sad to bye to such kind ppl you just want to spend more time with.
We started walking on the jeep road where we tried driving through the night before. Such a diff experience. It's obviously much faster and easier walking on the lumpy road. We kept walking and reached a horse camp at where the Pct connects. It looked so spooky in there w all the fog. We were so glad to find the trail! We also noticed fresh footsteps in front of us. Guess we weren't the only hikers who were able to connect on. All morn, we were soaked from all the brush and trees. The wind also blows all the water onto the trail. So wet. My shoes were soaked and soupy. It's uncomfortable to walk in. Did this all morn for about five hours before the sun finally stayed. It felt SO good to have dry sun after being so wet. We passed some bros. I also was studying this one pair of altra footsteps and had noticed the huge stride. I figured this hiker much be super tall. Then I met this man sitting on an exposed ridge named daddy long legs. I knew it was him! So funny.
Made it to lunch on this exposed ridge with lots of sun to dry out our gear. It was pretty hot but our things dried out well. I could see Mt Stuart from there! As well as the chinook fire and one from eastern WA. This section is pretty dry and off trail water. Lots of steep climbs as well. Kelly and I decided to keep pushing to the last spring and camp at the abandoned road. That way we won't have a huge day tom. 23 and 23 seems reasonable. I was coordinating w heather and she may come meet me at stevens! I really need Internet so I can do fire research. I'm stressed out bc I don't want this next section to close before I am able to do it. I can't afford another closure! I just can't. Anyways. Looking forward to real service finally since the border. It's so hard to coordinate and research things w bad service.
This also might be the last time I'll camp w Kelly if Itime my eta to stevens on fri. Since we're two days ahead now from the white pass closure. It's so sad! She is my first WA friend where we actually ended up having the same camp and lunch spots since trout lake. I think we think pretty similar and it's been nice to do recaps of the day together. It is pretty cold tonight. I also decided to have two dinners tonight bc I have so much food. It was amazing.
