Slept warm last night. My sleeping padkeeps deflating overnight where I can't get comfortable so I have to blow it up again. I'm gonna try to call thermarest and see if they can do anything about it. I don't think I have a hole, it's just losing air for some reason and has gotten worse over these last few days. The climb out of hidden springs camp seemed steep. But up and up I went. I reached this open part of the trail and thought I would was supposed to see rainier there but it was clouded over a smoke. Then I rounded over the edge and bam! Rainy right in front of me! There was a thick cloud of smoke hovering over the summit though. But was so beautiful. Today was so clear. I already could tell when I had woken earlier.
I rounded over another ridgewalk and I could see the layers of smoke between all the mountains. It was so amazing. Then I up ahead I could see the fire up ahead. It was such a beautiful exposed morning. I loved it all. I crossed paths again w Kelly aka Eowyn. I'm just gonna her Kelly bc I haven't used her trail name but she told me her cousin was going to meet her at white pass. We started heading down the trail together when all of sudden she runs into her cousin, Jeremy! He was hiking up to meet w her. The rest of the descent down was steep and v hard on my feet. I was so tired. After we reached the road, we road walked .5 mile to the kracker barrel store for our boxes. Tons of hikers out and trying to hitch around the fire. My feet hurt so bad but I ended up walking w Kelly and Jeremy back to his campsite.
He has a nice spot by the lake. So peaceful. I'm so glad I went w them. Jeremy generously cooked us burgers while we organized our food. We decided we would try to drive up to the cabin to pick up from the trail after the closure. So half of my food was donated to the hiker box. We started our long drive around two. We were stuffed from lunch. It felt nice to lounge around. Halfway into our drive, we decided to take a quick detour to sunrise so Kelly could see rainy closer. We visited up there a little and then back to finding this forest road to the cabin. We weren't exactly sure how far we could drive in but both Kelly and Jeremy were adamant on getting as far as we could. The first part of the road was nice and paved. It was surprisingly busy. Lots of random cars on the side of the road and driving back, random shooting ranges.
Finally, we reach a very narrow road that looked super steep. I was really nervous but Jeremy decided to try it out. All of sudden we were in and couldn't turn around. It was a very intense jeep road and I couldn't believe we were trying to go through it. It was so stressful. I have never been on a road that scary! I was almost sure the truck was going to get stuck. Finally we found a place to turnaround so that he had help turning around. I was so relieved. It was a bit nerve wrecking to get it back out. It was getting late so we decided to find a place to camp w j. He had to call his wife to let her know since it wouldn't be good for him to drive so far home after this crazy day! We ended up driving up the road to a horse camp and set up there.
We actually had some service since it was at the very top of the road so I was able to update my Sis on my whereabouts. I haven't had any good reception since the border. We found a place to camp and set up our tents. The others went to find the edge of the drop off during sunset and I set up my bed. Then we all had dinner. J made us zucchini, broccoli and hot dogs. It was awesome
I love having a warm meal. Plus it was really cold and windy tonight. It was dark by the end of dinner and I was ready to crawl into my warm bag, excited for sleep. Tom we finally hope to find this cabin. This next section looks pretty dry. I'm not sure how many miles I wanna do but I kinda wanna push bigger days into snoqualmie.
