Today has officially been the smokiest it's ever been. I slept well but woke to the smell of smoke. It also never cooled down overnight. I had one leg out the whole time and wasn't cold. When I got out to potty in the dark, it was already clouded over. The morning was the only time I really got to see any outlines of peaks in the distance. It was already really hot and I felt my eyes burn from the smoke. Most of the day was just to keep my head down and hike. Not a single view. Was in the smoke the entire time it never let up. At least at goat rocks it would come in and out. I spent most of the day doing a long climb. There were like like a million switchbacks so it was nice but so so hot. I ended up taking a lunch before I got to the top since I was running out of snacks.
At the top of the climb, it kinda looked like tuck and robin lakes but it was whatever since it was all in smoke. I decided to make it all the way down to the river for camp which made my day 24 mi. It was a long descent but doable. Again, freakishly hot even for downhill. I never saw any hikers for awhile. It seemed like they had all passed me a long time ago. Little tiny pieces of ash started falling from the sky too. I just wanna get through this section. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be all smoke for me since tom is another heat wave day. I reached the campsite to find tons of ppl there. A mix between a large group of intl hikers and day hikers. They were pretty loud. And once again, smokers on top of the smoke. It blows my mind. I ate delicious Annie's for dinner. My food bag is way too heavy. I have way too much food. I would've done shorter days but I just wanna get out of this smoke.
