I slept not too well bc I was sliding a bunch. I always let others choose their spots bc I usually don't care if I'm sloped but I guess this spot was super angled as I was slipping. Oh well. Doesn't matter bc I'm not camping anymore! Also my zipper on my tent officially failed as well. Thank goodness it's the last day. We stayed in our tents until a little sun peeked into our campsite. That literally has never happened on trail. We packed up for the last time and we were off. The boys went ahead and after awhile, I started getting anxious and walked faster. I passed a good amount of hikers who were walking back from the monument, everyone so happy and full of smiles. I had a few views and then all of a sudden I could hear ppl down at the terminus about half a mile away. Through the trees, I could see the shiny metal thing as I walked up and there it was. Monument 78.
Already there was munchies, diaper boy, the group of these really sweet hikers who followed me all last year, and the boys, adam and baton. I knew all of them and we reached the border all at the same time. I sat w baton and signed the trail register. I didn't really know what to write. It started getting colder and the other hikers needed to finish their pics so we could move the queue. Then I went straight into wedding photog mode and started bossing everyone to move in and out to get the ball rolling for pics. Duh. We were all frozen and wanted to take our pics and just go.
After the border, there was still 9 miles left to manning park. We were all so incredibly tired and the first part of the trail was so steep and rugged. Oh man, my legs hurt so bad. Mentally and physically, I was done. I had barely eaten or drank anything that day and was low on water but I was able to find a flowing steam yay. I found the boys breaking at a camp five miles before we were done. All of us were so tired and just wanted to stop walking. I wanted to be carried out and they talked me into walking out these five miles or else I would die on trail so I walked. I reached a small dirt road like path that went all down so I attempted to walk fast/jog. I listened to my throwback playlist of screamo and ran even faster. All of a sudden, I see a bright pink jacket up ahead which maybe was Alissa and it was her and chris!! They had hiked up the trail a little to find me! They told me they were handing out donuts and asking hikers if they saw me and after talking to the boys, they knew I was close! I'm glad they didn't have to walk up too far and that I was able get in somewhat early.
We walked back to the car and I didnt have to walk .5 to the lodge yay. Drove over to manning park and had food. It never tasted so good. Shortly after, I was sad to say goodbye to the boys. Baton was riding w adam back to van and I was going w chris and Alissa. I've only been hiking from stevens w baton and I already felt like we've been friends for a long time. It's funny how 200 miles and seeing each other everyday will do that to you. Another hiker, after burner, also rode w us back to van. It was a long drive but not too long. A few back ups but we made it back at a decent hour. The smoke was already coming into the city. We came back to the house and I got to finally shower. So much dirt on my legs. First shower since stevens. Then we went to this amazing Korean restaurant for dinner. It was so good and filling. Came home to finish up my laundry and then bed!! I bought my bolt bus ticket home and will get back to seattle tom.
