So we did it! Great team work and we all packed up before 530a and hiked out to get the first shuttle into stehekin. I ended up following baton in the dark so I didn't have to hike alone. I get nervous now night hiking for a long time. Flashbacks to when me and gb used to hike together. My legs were so tired. On every uphill, my legs could barely move up. Five days straight of climbing and I was def feeling it. It felt like forever but we finally made it to the ranger station before nine and tons of other hikers were all there waiting.
The shuttle to town was $8 one way. It stops at the bakery first. The bus driver gave us 25 min to get in and out before it left. It was insane. Basically it drops off 35 hikers and were're all in a huge line. But then as soon as you get close to the pastry case, there is almost no time to make an order bc there's so much pressure to pick random things fast as they're trying to move through the queue. I ended up grabbing a spring roll, quiche and potato salad. All of which was amazing. I wasn't really craving sweet though so I mainly focused on the savory. We sat for a quick moment before we had to be shuttled back. The friendly driver gave us a quick tour guide about stehekin over the intercom. We all got dropped off and our first stop was the po to sort resupply.
The po was in this cute little building that looked like a house ran by this old guy w an eye patch. He was so nice but so busy w all the hiker boxes stacked to the walls of his office. I ended up having three! One I sent, one from mike/jackie and tori/joe! Tori's was a surprise so that was nice. It's always so sweet to read the notes. I carry them the whole way. I took all my boxes back to the picnic tables and we started sorting. I felt like mine took forever bc I had sooo much food but all the hikers around me needed extra food so that worked out well. After that, I walked over to the public shower and phone. I called chris and was able to get through! They're gonna come pick me up at manning park and I gave them an eta to the lodge.
Finally, we headed to the store and I was able to supplement some things. I also got to use some wifi. Checked weather and such things and think I will try to push for a sat finish!! Baton will come w us to Vancouver if it works out. Unfortunately, I am sad to leave the drs. I think they will be just a few hrs behind and will finish Sunday morning. It's been such a fun section w them. I never would've imagined to find another group of new hikers that I would enjoy leap frogging with. It def takes time and I couldn't have asked for a better way to finish off this state. We also all go v similar paces which is rare. We sat around for quite awhile at the store but it was super hot in the sun. Lake chelan just looked so pretty w the mts in the back. This place is so peaceful. The others ordered a lunch and I passed since I was still full from the bakery.
Finally, we moved onto getting a camping permit for the night. We realized we still needed to charge things. Walked over to the overflow camping and set up our tents. It started getting super windy. It was getting late in the afternoon and I started getting so hungry. Walked back to the store and just got ramen and a few other cheap things for dinner. We sat by the picnic tables and cooked our food. Everyone seems to have such a huge appetite except myself. I've been so tired all day. I'm excited to sleep tonight.
