Today has been the most buggy of all. I woke up to tons of buzzing outside my tent. I was terrified of getting out but I had to pee so bad. I finally put on some netting and headed out. Started out way later today at eight. It's pretty hot by then already. I wore my head net for most of the day. Tons of swarms every time I stopped so I didn't really break until after mile eight.
I got on the Oregon skyline trail alternate as there are more water sources. I was hoping there was a cache at the windigo junction but there was not so I rationed my 1/3 liter for around 5 miles. I really hate being thirsty and can't chug water. The OST is a great trail. It's shared w horses and mtn bikers. Every once in awhile I see a lake through all the skinny trees and that's where I get my water. Bc it's standing water, there's bugs and other junk in it. I really miss moving water that's fresh.
I really wanted to take a break since I had been walking non stop all morning and finally found a good flat spot w mainly just flies and ants crawling on my legs so it wasn't too bad. I had to keep moving my ground sheet to get shade though. It wasn't super restful so I got up and starting walking again. I got a glimpse of crescent lake through the trees and wow it looked so blue and pretty! Was kinda bummed to not be stopping there but oh well. I got my last water at whitefish creek. I ended up just crossing it in my shoes since I didn't wanna walk on a log and it felt SO refreshing. I then cleaned my legs for the first time since seattle. That was nice but also meant all the bug spray was wiped off.
The rest of the walk was filled w skeeters, downed trees and horse poop. I kept thinking I should try to make it to diamond lake for camp since it was so early but I told myself to not overdo and just find a good spot w some breeze away from bugs. So i stopped around mile 16. It'd be 20 if I made it to diamond lake. I set up camp but it was super hot since I got in early. I set out my caked on muddy shoes to dry and everything else that was gross. Hopefully they'll dry overnight. I'm a little ahead of schedule I think bc the alternate is shorter. I'm gonna prob stay at shelter cove till Monday to get my pkg. I'm looking fwd to charging all my things and doing nothing there. I may shower but it's nice to know that I don't have to go in and out of a town so quick. I'm thinking I may try for 18 mi/day to sisters. It's another semi long stretch at 98 miles. I'll prob wake up a little earlier tom and get into shelter cove early.
Today I only passed one person, saw some horses go by and passed a sobo. I'm camped alone tonight and I hear some weird animals rustling through the woods. Plz stop.
