This morning I took my time heading out. Even though I was already awake when I heard glen packing up, I wanted to leave camp later to see how it would affect my day. I prob started hiking around eight and reached the or/wa high pt! I sent gb a text since that was the last time he had called me from. I told him how diff this year has already felt and that I literally couldn't fathom how we even did our mileage last year waking up at 4a.
Today was mostly in trees and no views. I listened to podcasts and it was so nice. I barely saw anyone. No signs of glen. He's prob ahead now. I ended up going to Maidu lake for water. It's a mile off trail but omg the bugs were the worst so far. They literally swarmed me as soon as I stopped. The lake was gross standing water but I had to get it anyways. I immediately pulled two liters and carried it far away from the mosquitoes as I could. My feet and ankles were starting to hurt and I wanted to take a lunch but there was no good spots without bugs. I finally found one and took a mini nap. I also started getting an eczema flare up a few days ago and am having michelle mail me my rx to shelter cove! Hopefully I won't have to loiter too long to get the box. Thank you so much, you've saved me for this next session!
The rest of the day was just walking in the trees and a semi steepish climb up to where I wanted to camp. I prob did around 17 again today w the water detour but I wanted to end my day at a good place. There is no need to rush. I need to keep telling myself that. I met two older ladies who were camped across the junction from me who have been hiking the Pct for forty years. Crazy. They are hiking to sisters. Today should be my last period day yay. Also my legs are so sticky. So many layers of bug spray and dirt. I haven't been able to rinse anything off bc of all the bad water sources. I decided to try sleeping in my pants tonight so my legs don't rub and feel sticky. It's a little hot but oh well.
