We wake a little later around five. It's getting darker out now, it's weird. The climb today seemed long and steep. Once we got up the hill, it was down to the road. I was so sick of all my snacks. I forced myself to eat the last bits of my trail mix. I get to the road first and no one is there. No cars pass. We hear the hitch is long but you WILL get picked up by a very friendly local. I sat in the little shade there was before the sun moved in. Gb came shortly and joined. Then this duo named double d came. It was a father and son from San Diego who have been hiking together. So precious. I'm glad I got to meet them. More hikers came and then Boy Scout. Soon we had a huge line of hikers in queue waiting for a ride. Being the first ones, gb and I had been waiting for around 1.5 hours. But this one pick up drives by and takes all of us in! He was a local named tom and grew up in etna. He has three kids and is a huge outdoors guy. Super friendly and took us straight into town after the 11 miles down the hilly road and dropped us all off at the coffee shop.
We all get out and go into the coffee shop and order some breakfast sandwiches. It was SO delicious and homemade. I got sausage, egg, cheese, avocado and spinach on a croissant. I also ordered a triple berry smoothie. We sit and loiter and talk to double d. I call the motel to see if we can get an early check in and we get in a little after noon. That is always so nice. The room was SO nice and clean. And the ac was awesome. We finally shower and put all the dirty clothes into my trash bag. We heard the motel let you do laundry and they did! They are so kind here. We walk to the grocery for resupply. They had a pretty limited selection. Most of the things we buy were sold out, obviously lots of hikers have come through. I still think I have too much food but I got some goodies that will help motivate me to Oregon.
We head back to the room to start laundry and I end up eating a few snacks since I was starving. Gb calls thia and I organize my food and finish our laundry. Then the clouds start moving in and it downpours. The storm finally rolled in. We sat and debated when to head out for dinner. By five, the rain had calmed down and we change into pants since it was now cooler out. The sky was so nice. So many dark clouds and sun spots. There were little lightning strikes too. We reach the burger place and see danger Dave! I have not seen him since the desert times loooong before Kennedy meadows. We catch up. I order a Hawaiian burger and chili cheese fries. It was actually really good. I didn't have room for a shake at all. We wanted to pack out pizza tomorrow but looks like the pizza place closed down. So we walk home.
So incredibly tired, I plop down on the bed and get into pjs. The rest of the night is just laying and playing catch up on the Internet. I also received a text from a friend back home today that was super encouraging. She had said that she's been really thinking more about her faith as she's been hearing about my trip and how I've dealt with being a Christian out here. I was just so happy she sent me that text. I know that I am not very bold with my faith in general just bc I don't want to come off as those pushy Christians but with what I do share, it encourages me so much that she was able to take that small part and really be inspired by it. So I got to Facetime her for a little bit so that was awesome! I have never had someone be encouraged by my story to ask more questions about God so it was really amazing to hear.
I am laying in bed, catching up on blogs and eating blueberries. I get hot and then cold and hot then cold under these blankets. I love the ac and bed though.
