Tomorrow is Cajon Pass aka McDonalds. Everyone keeps talking about it because it's .4 miles off trail and hikers eat like ten cheeseburgers. We noticed having something to look forward to in each section makes it really exciting. We had a chill morning out around 630a and hiked together for most of the day. I really am liking our paces. Usually Kristen will be in front, then me, then GB. And we're usually a few feet from each other so it's not claustrophobic. Going slow and steady has been helping me not be overly exhausted.
It was another super hot day on the ridge. When we finally saw silverwood lake, it was so amazing. We haven't hiked right next to a lake at all so it was super nice to stare at water the whole time. We reached the beach area and found a little shade under the shade to take our lunch break. Two other hikers were already there who spent the night. It was so nice and peaceful. The others jumped in but I only wanted to dip my feet in, not a fan of cold water! We scattered all of our damp tents and sleeping bags out on the sand to dry. I was starving so I wanted to eat ASAP. I ate the rest of my cheese and sausage because they had become sweaty with all the hot days. After awhile, a huge crowd of hikers started filtering in at the beach and was super loud. I'm not sure what the deal is, but loud party hikers give me anxiety. I just wanted to head out, so we packed our things and were off.
I didn't have much water and was dying for some cold water so we stopped at the picnic area a few miles down the lake to fill up. We took a little break and calculated some mileage until Wrightwood. We were also able to reserve some lodging so that was good since it will probably we booked by the time we get there. We seem to always arrive to town on weekends. After that, we wanted to hike out a few miles to find a site. We knew it was going to w ridge again so at the dirt road, we walked around to find a spot. It's a little exposed and windy but we hope it'll die down a bit. As we were pitching, we see Lisa and Rusty walk up and we were SO happy to see them! Nothing makes you smile like seeing friends you haven't seen in a few days! We're so happy we are all back together again camping and can't wait to go to McDs together.
