Last night I watched titanic on the tv. It's nice to watch tv. I slept well but was up by five and hungry. I rode the bike down the road for sunrise and saw it over Mt Adams. The top had a slight haze over it. Turns out it's smoke from possibly near chinook pass. The breakfast at the inn was at seven. I had a bagel, some fruit and waffles. I was so full from carbs. I went back to my room and decided to ride to the grocery to use some wifi and see if Gary was there. I arrived to the porch and there were some really smelly, loud and obnoxious young hiker boys. After a few mins, Gary pulled up. I told him yesterday I'd buy him his coffee this morn so I did. I also got a block of cheese. Gary told me he ended up taking the pink kitten home! I knew he couldn't resist. It's so cute. I told him I'd head back around ten to go back to trail.
I rode back to my room and took one last shower and watched more tv. It was so nice to veg out. I didn't want to leave this nice bed and room w clean amenities. I finally checked out around 945 and started walking towards town. As I got about halfway, guess who pulls up?! It was Gary. He remembered I was heading back around ten so he came to look for me so he could give me a ride. He is so sweet!! I just couldn't believe it. We went to the grocery and were able to give about four other hikers a ride back to trail too. I was so curious on why Gary decided to do this for hikers now. He genuinely likes giving all these random ppl rides, even the annoying loud ones. He ended up telling me the rides started a long time ago and it just naturally became that way. It wasn't until recently that he was being named trail angel on the list. I think he likes meeting everyone and hearing the stories from ppl that are meaningful. I gave him a hug when I left. I'm gonna miss him! But I told him I'll be back to visit soon and check up on the kitty which will become a cat. If anything, I plan on climbing Adams every year and now I have an excuse to spend more time in trout lake!
The hike out today was insanely hot. In the 90s. Up a huge exposed hill in the burned section. Adams started clearing up as the day went on and it was so pretty. I was so hot though. Every climb up was so hard. Once I passed the l burn zone, it immediately felt like WA!! So pretty and green. Alpine trees everywhere. Most of the wildflowers are dead now. I accidentally rolled my ankle on a rock. This was kinda intense but hopefully it's ok. I don't feel pain just a little sore. I was really tired though. I haven't walked this late in awhile. I need to be more careful w my steps. I arrived to my planned campsite w two others I had leap frogged today. We have this amazing view of Adams right in front of us. It is magical. Prob the best site I've ever had on the Pct so far. Two other women hikers came by later and we all watched the sunset on the glacier. The colors from the smoke on the other side were amazing. I seriously haven't seen any sunrises or sets in forever. We've been in trees almost everyday!!
I'm super stoked for this section. I'm pretty sure each day is gonna have great views. I'm planning to do at least twenty. There's also a heat wave so I need to start early. It was nice eating pasta for dinner.
