First zero in ten days. It feels nice. It's also not as effective since I haven't been out very long. We woke around 645a from the smoke alarm going off haha. They've been having some issues lately w it going off randomly w no smoke. I played apples to apples w pia and Tallis in the room. We sat around most of the day and relaxed. Had banana bread for breakfast and went to the pool for a bit w the girls. We all felt sluggish and sleepy most of the day. Finally worked up some energy and walked to town w Matt and the girls to get bubble tea. We got to bubble tea and found out they were closed for an event. Was a bit bummed but walked to plan b for froyo. So much sugar it was so good haha. I haven't had much sugar since I stopped hiking. Withdrawals.
Walked back home and got ready for dinner. Then we played more apples to apples and it was super fun. Way more fun w more ppl. Girls went to bed and I sat out on the porch w Natalie and Matt. It's not even cold outside. No bugs or anything so nice.
I ended up taking many zeros here. Didn't really plan on it but I wasn't in any rush to get anymore. Except that I needed to be at the border around the 18th. If I got there super early, I would've had to loiter there until Pct days. So it kinda worked out fine w this section being closed so it gave me more buffer time to make it to cascade locks. I only have 100 miles after olallie to the border. The only thing is that I feel like my leg muscles have already deteriorated. I'm a little nervous about jumping back after being off for so long. I mean it's really good I got to rest after pushing it to santiam but I wasn't able to keep up my stamina. Oh well. I'm pretty sure I'll be fine.
This week was a bit smokey in town. It's pretty intense when you are able to smell it. We didn't have any of that on trail. Each morning, I found myself playing American girl dolls or a game w the girls. I feel like the Grummer's really old adopted sister. It's pretty funny. I'll be sad to leave the girls but pia needs her bed back and I need to hike again. I have a box over at timberline, hopefully it's still there. The other day we went to a creek by their house and Natalie taught me how to fly fish! It was really fun and a little awkward at first but I kept casting awkwardly until I got a catch. It was a little rainbow trout. What an exciting feeling to finally catch one after a million bites!
We plan to leave for olallie on sat w the fam and they will do a day trip. It's def a ways out there so I wanted them to be able to enjoy some time out there, whatever it is. I feel like olallie is out in the middle of nowhere! And hopefully everyone will be able to hike in a few miles w me on trail!!
