This morning I rolled out of bed just as the sun was rising. It gets HOT out here. Today was my last day at the airport, so sad to leave yet so happy. I packed my things the six of us: GB, tori, Joe, genie, Parker and I started figuring out rides to the trailhead. It was still kind of early so we were reluctant on calling some trail angels. We called a few while we walked to the intersection but no luck. We tried going to the gas station to see but nothing. We passed the bakery and I was like "we should just go get a pastry to pack out since we're passing it and didn't get them yesterday." So GB, Parker, genie and I went in. I got a ham and cheese croissant, coconut macaroon and a cheese Danish to pack out. We sat outside eating our food when this man named Shawn starts asking us some questions and asked if we needed a ride. It's crazy how nice people in this town are! Btw we've met like five people all named Sean in the past week, such a popular name. He gave us four a lift in his truck to the trailhead. His son, Cole (15), also came along. It was really fun talking to them! So we didn't get to the trail early but were so thankful for the ride. Sometimes in town, you just can't leave that early.
The trail began right beside the freeway for quite awhile before heading inward. It was HOT and then we started climbing. My shoulders were hurting pretty bad so I had to stop so much to not make it feel so tense. I think I have way too much food. And I had 4L of water. I took a lunch break around 130p and ate my Danish and a bunch of chips. I passed out for a small bit and moved on. I noticed there were a bunch of solo girls on the trail today, so cool to see. Man I was slugging hardcore today. So dang hot all day and it even felt muggy.
Finally made it to the water source to find a giant pond filled with algae and tadpoles. There was a small tube dripping fresh water that we have to collect from. It was the slowest flow I have ever used. There wasn't much to camp and I didn't want to set up by the water. There were tons of hikers there. But one of the Bros found some flat spots up the hill so me, GB and genie set up camp there. I ate some stuffing for dinner and we hung out for a little before bed. It's always so hard for me to socialize at the end of the day. I am so sleepy. Gonna wake up early tomorrow.
