Today has officially been my hardest day. With doing 15 miles yesterday and today at 14 with very little recovery time, I am dead. The last .25 mile to our campsite was brutal. My feet and lower back were killing. And we finished the last part in the heat which made it just sluggish.
We carried out around 5L for the next 20 mile stretch. There was a water source in between but seemed unreliable with reports of it being green with algae. The morning hike out was so beautiful. We were ridge walking through sunrise and passing through so many mountain ranges. We made our halfway mark around 9am with 7 left. I had noticed something leaking in my pack and what do ya know? My huge thing of water was leaking and it somehow dripped through the cracks to the INSIDE of my trash compactor bag. Therefore, I had to take everything out during our lunch to dry it all out. Thankfully, the sun shines bright for most of the day so I got it dried up pretty quickly.
The rest of the day was just hiking. Nothing super eventful but the last four miles or so was just brutal. Hiking in the high sun and every mile and step just seemed to be slugging along. We ended up camping up high at mile 61.5. It is SO windy. It was so difficult setting up the tent but it'll be a good test on how the duplex holds up in high wind. It's gonna be a cold night tonight but I don't care. I could not walk another mile. When o was sitting in my tent, I looked at my body and I had dirt caked on so hard. I have never been so dirty before.
We had a little bit of service out at our site, so I made some Amazon orders from my tent so they can get shipped to Warner Springs. I noticed I was starting to chafe in my thighs and didn't want it to get worse so I order a bigger thing of body glide since the one I have now sucks. I've never changed before in the past so this is all new to me. Sweat, dirt and rubbing is no good.
